To DCA into AVAX, you swap a fixed amount of another token, such as USDC, into AVAX on a regular schedule instead of all at once. A recurring swap automates it: you set the amount per order, how often it runs, and how many times, then sign the setup once.
This is general information, not investment advice.
Key takeaways
- DCA spreads a purchase over time. Each order buys at that moment's price, so you end up with an average.
- It doesn't guarantee a profit or protect against losses. If AVAX falls for the whole schedule, you still lose value.
- In Wyro, open Swap, enter the amount per order, tap the recurring button, and set a frequency and number of orders.
- The first swap runs right away. The rest run automatically on schedule.
- You see the schedule, total spend, and any one-time schedule fee before you start, and you can pause, resume, or cancel later.
What DCA does, and what it doesn't
Say you plan to put 1,200 USDC into AVAX. Instead of one swap today, you set 12 monthly swaps of 100 USDC. When the price is lower, 100 USDC buys more AVAX; when it's higher, it buys less. You end up with whatever 12 purchases at 12 prices add up to.
FINRA's guide to the benefits and limitations of dollar-cost averaging is a neutral summary. Applied to crypto:
| Potential benefits | Limitations |
|---|---|
| Takes timing pressure and some emotion out of buying | Doesn't guarantee a profit or protect against losses |
| Fixed amounts buy more when prices are low | If the price rises steadily, a lump sum would have bought more |
| Money not yet swapped isn't exposed to a sudden drop | More swaps means more network fees |
| A schedule is easy to stick to | Funds for later orders must stay in your wallet |
AVAX is volatile. Only commit what you can afford to lose.
How recurring swaps work in Wyro
Recurring swaps run on Avalanche C-Chain. Quotes and schedules come from the Markr routing API, the same service behind regular swaps (how Wyro routes your swaps). You sign the setup on your device. Later orders are triggered by relayers for the recurring-swap contract, not by Wyro, and Wyro never holds your funds.
Frequency and number of orders
The recurring sheet uses two wheels: "Every X unit" and "Z times".
| Setting | Options |
|---|---|
| Frequency | Every 5 to 59 minutes, 1 to 23 hours, 1 to 30 days, 1 to 52 weeks, or 1 to 12 months |
| Number of orders | 2 to 365, or until cancelled |
| Default | Daily, 12 orders |
"Until cancelled" isn't offered when you pay with native AVAX, because the whole schedule is wrapped up front. To DCA into AVAX you'll usually pay with a stablecoin such as USDC anyway.
What you approve
Starting a schedule means signing a short sequence of transactions, shown together on one confirmation sheet:
- Paying with a token such as USDC: an approval that lets the recurring-swap contract spend the schedule's total, then the transaction that creates the schedule. If the contract is already approved for enough, the approval step is skipped. An "until cancelled" schedule needs an unlimited approval.
- Paying with native AVAX: Wyro wraps the full schedule into WAVAX, approves it, then creates the schedule. Your balance has to cover the whole schedule at the start.
When paying with a token, each order draws from your wallet when it runs. If your balance no longer covers an order, that order fails. The swap screen warns you before you start if your current balance doesn't cover the full schedule.
Costs you see before you confirm
With recurring turned on, the swap screen shows:
- Schedule, for example "Daily · 12 orders"
- Total spend, the amount per order times the number of orders
- Schedule fee (one-time), in AVAX, when the quote includes one
The confirmation sheet then lists each setup step with the network fee and the expected balance changes from a Tenderly simulation. Pool fees for each order are part of that order's swap, and each order is capped by your slippage setting. Quotes change, so read the numbers on screen rather than relying on a fixed figure.
How to set up a recurring swap
- Open Trade → Swap.
- Choose the token you pay with (for example USDC) and AVAX as the token you receive.
- Enter the amount per order.
- Tap the recurring button next to the swap button and turn on Repeat this swap.
- Set the frequency and number of orders, then close the sheet.
- Check Schedule, Total spend, and any schedule fee. Adjust slippage if needed.
- Tap Start Recurring Swap and approve. The first swap executes right away.
With a Ledger, you confirm each setup transaction on the device.
How to pause or cancel
Open the recurring settings on the swap screen and tap through to Recurring Swaps. Each schedule shows its pair, frequency, progress (for example "4/12 done"), and the next run time. If an order failed, the last issue is shown under it.
- Pause stops future orders until you Resume.
- Cancel ends the schedule.
Each action is an onchain transaction you sign, with a small network fee. Some older schedules can't be paused, but they can still be cancelled. Cancelling stops future orders; if you used an unlimited approval, it's still worth reviewing approvals you no longer need.
Risks
- Price risk. DCA averages your entry price. It doesn't stop losses if AVAX falls.
- Execution risk. An order can fail if your balance is too low or the price moves past your slippage limit.
- Smart-contract risk. Schedules run through a third-party contract and relayers.
- Approvals. The contract can spend up to the approved amount until the schedule ends or you cancel it.
- Availability. Swaps in Wyro, including recurring swaps, aren't available in the UK, sanctioned or embargoed regions, or where your location can't be determined.
Once you hold AVAX, you can keep it, supply it on Aave or Benqi through Earn, or delegate it on the P-Chain (how to stake AVAX).
FAQ
What is a recurring swap?
A schedule that swaps a fixed amount of one token into another at regular intervals, such as daily or weekly. You sign the setup once, and later orders run automatically until the schedule completes or you cancel it.
Is DCA a good way to buy AVAX?
It depends on your goals and risk tolerance. DCA reduces the impact of timing a single purchase, but it doesn't guarantee a profit or protect against losses. This isn't investment advice.
How often can a recurring swap run in Wyro?
From every 5 minutes to every 12 months, for 2 to 365 orders or until you cancel. "Until cancelled" isn't available when you pay with native AVAX.
What fees do recurring swaps have?
Each order's quote includes pool fees, and orders are capped by your slippage. Wyro shows a one-time schedule fee in AVAX when the quote includes one, plus the network fee for each transaction you sign. All of it is shown before you confirm.
How do I cancel a recurring buy?
On the swap screen, open the recurring settings, go to Recurring Swaps, and tap Cancel on the schedule. You sign a transaction to cancel it onchain.
